I’m Anirban Mitra, a Certified Cyber Crime Criminologist, and I’ve been reaching out to people across West Bengal and beyond to raise awareness about one of the most dangerous forms of cyber threats today - the Zero-Click Attack.
Unlike traditional cyberattacks that require you to click a link, download a file, or open an attachment, zero-click attacks need no action from your side. Hackers exploit hidden vulnerabilities in apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, or even regular SMS systems to gain access to your device silently. That means they can steal data, activate your camera or microphone, or track your location, without you doing a thing.
Recently, cybersecurity experts have noticed a sharp rise in such attacks targeting Indian users on social media, often originating from Pakistan-based hacking groups. Their main goal is to gather sensitive information, spread fake content, or manipulate accounts for espionage or fraud. Many of these attacks are disguised under fake profiles, friend requests, or emotional posts to lure people into engagement before triggering the exploit.
Here’s what you should do to stay safe:
1) Keep your apps updated especially messaging and social media platforms.
2) Avoid interacting with unknown accounts or suspicious DMs, even if they look harmless.
3) Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all platforms.
4) Don’t share personal details, OTPs, or sensitive files online.
If you notice your device heating up, draining battery fast, or acting strange , get it checked immediately.
Cyber threats are evolving, and Zero-Click Attacks are the next-level weapon being used by foreign hackers to exploit digital loopholes. My mission is to make people aware before it’s too late.
Stay alert. Stay resilient. Protect your data - because cybersecurity starts with awareness.
